Jim is a seasoned venture capital executive of over $1B in fund assets. He has over 30 years of direct technology venture investing, including deal sourcing, due diligence, deal structuring, negotiation, valuation and ongoing management. This includes over 14 years venture fund management responsible for approval of transactions and managing team of professional venture managers. He has depth of knowledge in strategy, fund raising, financial management, team building and leadership. Jim has also had numerous Board of Director appointments both private and public.
Jim is currently a partner at Initio Breakthrough. He spent the last 5 years as an independent consultant focused on sell side technology company merger and acquisitions and venture capital fund strategy. Previous to that he spent over 18 years with GrowthWorks Capital Ltd. as Senior Vice President, Investments. GrowthWorks managed several funds across the country totalling about $800M in assets under management. Jim started his venture capital career with Discovery Enterprises Inc. After 8 years, he joined Ventures West Management before moving on to GrowthWorks.
Jim has a B.Sc. in Astronomy from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
